I have been seeing a lot of parent or guardians allowing children to sit in the front seat of their vehicles without taking into consideration that they might be putting their child’s life in danger. So, I thought to take the time to share this information with you about Air Bag Safety. This information comes from a site that is noted below. Please check this information out and show your children that you love them by not putting their lives in danger.

How big is the problem?

In the United States during 2005, 1,335 children ages 14 years and younger died as occupants in motor vehicle crashes, and approximately 184,000 were injured. That’s an average of 4 deaths and 504 injuries each day.

Among children under age 5, in 2006, an estimated 425 lives were saved by car and booster seat use.

What are the risk factors?

Child restraint systems are often used incorrectly. One study found that 72% of nearly 3,500 observed car and booster seats were misused in a way that could be expected to increase a child’s risk of injury during a crash.

How can injuries to children in motor vehicles be prevented?

Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in passenger cars by 71% for infants, and by 54% for toddlers ages 1 to 4 years.

There is strong evidence that child safety seat laws, safety seat distribution and education programs, community-wide education and enforcement campaigns, and incentive-plus-education programs are effective in increasing child safety seat use.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends booster seats for children until they are at least 8 years of age or 4′9″ tall.

According to researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, for children 4 to 7 years, booster seats reduce injury risk by 59% compared to seat belts alone.

All children ages 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. Adults should avoid placing children in front of airbags. Putting children in the back seat eliminates the injury risk of deployed front passenger-side airbags and places children in the safest part of the vehicle in the event of a crash.

Overall, for children less than 16 years, riding in the back seat is associated with a 40% reduction in the risk of serious injury.

To learn more about effective interventions to increase child safety seat use, visit CDC’s Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety page.

Peace

The International Council for Peace, Justice, and Empowerment partnered with Sisters in StruggleK, African Liberation Party, and Kulcha House will hold a summit in Atlanta to address the epidemic of youth violence. For over 15 years, the Council has worked all over the U.S. to affect change in the lives of youth afflicted by poverty, and street warfare. Their first summit was held in Kansas city in 1993, at the peak of gang season, and with the collaboration of the council, indigenous leadership, city officials, and even then organizer Barack Obama—the rates of violence in the affected cities decreased dramatically. Since the first Summit the International Council has brought their unorthodox methods of conflict resolution around the world, orchestrating gang truces and implementing preventative social programming.

On February 26th and 27th at Morris Brown University we will convene to address the institutional and capital viciousness that has left our youth and our communities in such desperate disarray. Looking away from the current trend of institutionalizing and criminalizing our youth of color, we will look to use more preventative methods. After all, gang violence can never be stopped without eliminating the need for those protective fraternities. This will only happen by eradicating the impoverished communities and offering peace, reconciliation, and opportunity in exchange for the street life.

This is why we are calling on hip-hop artists who truly exemplify the true spirit of hip-hop to step up and make their contribution to ending the institutional cycle of youth violence, to building an infrastructure that protects against these social tremors.

We are calling all those who are truly committed to this generation to step down for their silos—doctors, public officials, activists, organizers, professors, teachers, families, students, and youth—to put together a framework for action in the Southern region. Hip hop artists are an essential part of this equation.

Help us polish the prophetic core of hip-hop which was is truth telling, establishing a unique identity, and having fun. Your presence or performance could attract thousands of youth and plant the seed of consciousness in their mind. Or your facilitation of a workshop surrounding hip-hop as a tool could truly change the trajectory of a generation.

We are calling all those who truly believe in the elemental power of hip-hop to do your part in eliminating these social tremors and tragedies!

I build that all is well with you thus far this year. I’m coming to you today promoting an event that has a wonderful purpose. Tonight at the Z. Lounge a benefit for cancer will take place between the hours of 10pm and 2am. All the proceeds will go to Stella Creamer, she is a close friend of the promoter who is suffering from colon cancer. As you know Cancer claims the lives of many Americans. Much of this is due to fact that many families aren’t able to afford the high costs of treatment. I won’t even mention insurance b/c if you know anything about insurance you already know that it is difficult to get the coverage you need to take care of yourself. It is important that we all take care of ourselves and those close to us. Exercise and healthy eating is very important to keeping yourself in the best shape. I wanted to share this link with you so that you can learn how to protect yourself from getting cancer: Ten ways to prevent cancer through exercise If you know someone who has cancer realize that positive thinking can help them as they journey through the process of curing themselves. Positive thinking and cancer: CBS Story: Studies shows how attitude can overcome cancer A woman’s personal experience: how positive thinking helped her. I build that this information is helpful for you and your loved ones.

If you have time come out later and check out these artists as they give their time and energy for this wonderful cause.

If you have never heard of Tony Touch find a brief write up about him and his history below. See you there…

Peace

TONY TOUCH, an icon in Hip-Hop and in the Urban Hispanic genre plus seasoned player in the game, is a true innovator and has revolutionized the DJ game over and over. From his legendary mixtapes, to his skills on the 1’s and 2’s, to becoming Hip-Hop’s most recognized DJ. This C.E.O/Artist/ Producer, is now currently working on his eighth commercial release titled “The PieceMaker 3 …The Return of the 50 Mc’s” and is expected to make history once again.

Tony Touch began as a B-boy during the rap music renaissance era of the early 80’s. Heavily influenced by pioneers like Crazy Legs and the Rocksteady Crew, Grandmaster Flash, Red Alert,Little Louie Vega and Jam Master Jay, he quickly shifted his interests towards the turntables. Toca is known for legendary mixtapes like the 50 Mc’s parts 1, 2 and 3. Included in this series are some of the hottest artist in the game such as KRS One, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Wyclef, M.O.P, Big L, Mos Def and many more all coming together for one collective piece. This along with the countless other mixtapes, Tony became recognized in the streets and by the industry as the real ‘Mixtape King.’

Tony Toca evolved his mixtape’s to record releases. In 2000, Tony released “The Piece Maker” on Tommy Boy Records. This album sold 400,000 units worldwide and featured legendary artists like Big Pun, Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Gang Starr and much more. The single “I Wonder Why” featuring Total was a hit and the video featured cameos from John Leguizamo, Rock Steady Crew, Grand Master Flash,The Awesome 2, Marley Marl, Dj Premier and more. Since then Tony Toca released “The Piece Maker 2”which also had an all-star line up with features such as P. Diddy, Fat Joe, Sean Paul, Snoop Dogg and legendary Ruben Blades. Toca is also known to represent the urban Latino community to the fullest with his Spanglish lyrics and Salsa roots. It is the result of growing up with Salsa at home and Hip- Hop influence in his lifestyle. in 2005 Tony inked a deal with EMI records and revolutionized the game once again with his Reggaeton album, ReggaeTony. The hit single “Play That Song,” featured Nina Sky and B-real of Cypress Hill. This cd had an All-Star line up such as Tego Calderon, Zion and Lenox, Pitbull, Ivy Queen, NORE, , Voltio, Mexicano, Thirston Howl III and Soni just to name a few. The album went GOLD and with that success, EMI moved quickly to release ‘ReggaeTony 2′. This cd featured more heavyweights including Lumidee, Plan B, Joell Ortiz, Tru Life, Don Chezina and the Beatnuts. To this date Tony has sold over a million records worldwide.

Touch continues to be in demand globally. The proof is in the passport as he has toured over 30 countries including Japan, Australia, Puerto Rico, London, France, Greece, Russia, Brazil, Germany, Columbia, Switzerland, Italy and Cuba…..just to name a few. He’s also acted as tour dj for acts like Cypress Hill, Gurus’s Jazzmatazz, Rock Steady and the Beatnuts. You also may have caught Tony on TV shows such as“Saturday Night Live” and “The Dave Chapelle Show” spinning for Eminem. Don’t forget the radio waves you might have heard him on in New York such as Hot 97, Power 105, and WBLS. In 2004, Eminem and manager Paul Rosenberg closed a deal for their own radio station on Sirius Satellite called Shade 45. Tony Touch was quickly recruited to host TOCA TUESDAYS (every tuesday night) from 8pm to Midnight E.S.T….and to this day can be heard LIVE all over the world.

In order to expose the world to some of the selections that get me through the day (& night), I present to you the 70’s Baby/80’s made me playlist. All the songs were produced between 1972-1986 & I think serve as a soundtrack to the developmental years of those who came of age during Crack’s untimely rise.

The first selection is from Pittsburgh-born & Philly-bred artist Phyllis Hyman. While she’s know for alot of her 80’s works, “No One Can Love You More”is a 70’s gem. Check it out & give me some feedback to the 1st of many throwbacks!
